Memorial Hall

2017 M Space, FORMOSA Sculpture Biennial, 2017,Pier-2 art center, Kaohsiung

In a dark space which seems like a dungeon for storage, memorial heads of mass reproduction of a transparent plastic are, in a way of setting up a filing system, arranged, row by row, into the hallways of files. In a dim light, these thin permeable sculptures are not only blurry faced, but also illusory and fuzzy. Well-organized and sealed, those files seem like secure data warehouses, but lose clues for recognition as well as possibilities to extract information, which is a memory void; a black hole of recognition. This space, in the name of Memorial Hall, not only refers to the riddles and ambiguities of history, but implies a variety of a world of plastic wrapping which seems close to but far away from the physical reality, where you peel off layer after layer to find nothing in it.
